Advanced Fitness is a class that concentrates on two factors of health - strength training for improved muscle strength and endurance and cardiorespiratory training using Polar heart rate monitors so students can monitor their own heart rate and reach peak performance by staying in their target heart rate zones for 20 minutes each cardio day. Each week will consist of 2-3 days of strength training and 2 days of cardio training which each student may choose how to exercise. Some students choose to use cardio machinesin the Izzo-Mariucci center, some choose to jog, play basketball, jump rope, etc. This is the nice aspect of cardio days. Students may participate in whatever activities they like as long as they reach 20 minutes in their target heart rate zones. All students will receive a number for their HR monitor and a hr band that they must keep in their locker and use each cardio day. Lost bands will cost $10. Students must make up absent days on their own time to regain credit since this is a participation grade. Grades will be determined by point totals at the end of each grading period. Students can gain 10 points a day based on dress, effort, attitude, and behavior.
