PE/WELLNESS
This class will be composed of two concepts: activities in gym/field and exploratory work in class or computer lab. Monday will be our classroom/ computer lab day that we will research wellness topics. Tuesday-Friday will be activity days.
GYM and FIELD ACTIVITIES
Gym or field activities will include individual activities, team sports, and recreational (lifelong) activities. Activities planned are:
Baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, badminton, strength training, bocce, bombardment, softball, tennis, archery, capture the flag, Q-tip hockey, circuit training, and jump roping
CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES
Classroom activities will include wellness research and exploratory work, group discussions, and article summary work. Topics of exploration will include: physical wellness, social wellness, emotional wellness, intellectual wellness, environmental wellness, and mental wellness.
GRADES
Grades will be based upon a cumulative point system for the semester.
Points are awarded for: participation, classroom work, mid-term and final exams
Points deducted for: lack of effort, disruptive or disrespectful behavior, not dressing for class, not turning in assigned work
EXCUSED NOTES
If you are sick or injured, please bring in a note from your doctor or parent. I will find an alternative way for you to make up your work. Days missed because of injury or sickness will need to be made up to get participation points. This must be done on your own time. Time can be made up before or after school, your seminar, lunch, or at open gyms at night.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR CLASS
- Athletic shoes, shorts or sweats, t-shirt or sweatshirt
- Towel, soap, and shampoo to shower after class, which is highly encouraged!!!
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Use bathroom before class, do not leave gym or class without permission, be in the gym on time ready for class, and do not leave class until the bell rings or you are dismissed. A lock and a locker will be provided to you to put your clothes and valuables in. Keep your belongings locked up at ALL times. IMHS is not responsible for any lost or stolen items that are not locked up.
